No tornado could stop Gwen Stefani. Not during Fashion Week.

Closing out New York Fashion Week, Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. runway show packed the Theater in Lincoln Center on Thursday night, amidst a damaging storm and tornado that touched down in the city that evening.  The show brought out stars such as Russell Simmons, Omarion, Christian Siriano, Spice Girl Mel B., her No Doubt bandmates, and of course, her husband, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale with her two sons, Kingston and Zuma, who all cheered her on from the sidelines.

With the thumping music beats of songs from M.I.A., MGMT and more, Gwen Stefani sent out a flurry of rockstar-chic pieces with funky shoes and bags. Once again, Stefani proves that she has a keen eye for designing accessories and that she’s a girl who knows how to have fun with fashion.

Keeping the looks fun and eclectic like her vibrant personality, most of the pieces were African and Caribbean-inspired prints with an edge. Most of the looks featured bold, tribal abstract designs such as plaid tailored pantsuits and mosaic-patterned chiffon dresses. Low-slung pants were favorite on the runway, along with cropped tops. Maroon, navy and mustard were the primary hues, while other pieces that were black and white were spiced up with animal prints.

Some of Stefani’s best looks from the collection was her menswear-inspired pieces. She used a lot of draping, wrapping and hanging to improvise and invent a look that comes out fresh and versatile enough to wear a look from daytime to evening.

Stefani also mastered the art of juxtaposition – many of her bold frocks featured delicate, feminine features, such as an A-line cut, off-the-shoulder necklines, and ruffles – tons of ruffles. Even with the edgy prints and designs, the little dainty details made the pieces a bit more ladylike.

At the end of the show, Stefani walked out to a standing ovation and her biggest supporter, 4-year old son Kingston, ran out to the runway and hugged his mother.

Although this show is lovely and I love what she did. I have seen this before… I definitely see some pieces that can be tastefully done in a plus size as well… if she would create a few pieces for extended sizes I would buy in a heartbeat…
