Socialite Genevieve Jones and La Perla celebrated the launch of their new 2009 collections. The exclusive preview was held at the La Perla flagship store, located conveniently in the heart of the meatpacking district. Guests enjoyed complementary specialty drinks provided by Skyy Vodka. The very sweet Genevieve Jones kindly model her jewelry collection for us. She looked stunning in her strapless Zac Posen (who was also in attendance) dress, consisting of a white bodice, textured metallic skirt and of course her own jewelry line. As mentioned earlier; we were invited to a special preview of Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2009 Collection. Here are a few pictures featuring some of the handbags.

Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Miley Cyrus, Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson can seen wearing Rebecca Minkoff latest handbag creations. With such an huge following, we were excited to have been invited to the special preview of Rebecca Minkoff’s Pre-Fall and Fall 2009 collections, which will be available between June and August.

The San Diego, California native began sewing at the tender age of 8 and designing clothes by the time she turned 18. Minkoff has turned her love of design into an well established line that is currently carried in over 200 boutiques across the USA as well as France, Canada, Japan. Which such success under her belt, Rebecca could not have been more down to earth when we briefly spoke with her during the preview.

JSD: When did you start sewing?

Rebecca Minkoff: I started sewing when I was eight and I made my Bar Mitzvah dress when I was thirteen. So I have been sewing and drawing since I was eight.

JSD: How was the transition from San Diego to New York?

RM: There was a in between period of San Diego to Florida and then Florida to New York. When I was sixteen, my parents let me come to New York for New Years with my boyfriend. After that I was hooked to New York.

JSD: What was your inspiration for the collection?

RM: My inspiration tends to be divided by month, because each month I do new colors and new styles. Overall the theme has been consistently a little bit of Rock n Roll. It’s always about the adventures of a young girl. We don’t know where she is coming from when the sunset or where she is going when the sunrise.

JSD: What fabrics were used to create this collection?

RM: All leather was used and some microfiber to make it easy for the handbag.

JSD: Tell us one “must have” item, every woman should have for the fall season?

RM: One of my bags!

JSD: Why one of your bags?

RM: They are of great value, great price points, and will never go out of style. My handbags are very current and will never look old.

JSD: How do you feel about the economy and what it has done to the fashion industry? Do you think it will get better?

RM: We have not been affected and I think it has to get better. If everyone switches to being positive and continue to move forward, and to keep putting positive energy out there, it will get better.

JSD: Where do you see the fashion in the next 5 years?

RM: Whoa! (laughs) I feel that there is always a cycle. Right now, it seem fashion has a dark side; more Rock n Roll and more hard edges. I think later it will become more hippy mode by next summer.

A few weeks ago we brought you an exclusive interview with Tibi designer and creator Amy Smilovic. This fashion week season we were invited to the runway presentation of the Fall 2009 line.

The quote by Amy Smilovic at the top of the Tibi itinerary read “Fall is about a light hearted moodiness influenced by the Russian fairytale “The Tale Of The Firebird.” Okay, so we’ll see some Russian influenced clothes this evening! This should be interesting. Based on her previous fall line, which I LOVED, I was excited to see what she had to present.

I was a bit disappointed at the overall fall line. There were a few stand out pieces, but the rest of the line was a bit simple-dull. The Russian influence translated in the ever-present black pieces and fur hats and gloves. There were ruffles, boxy pieces and she brought back paisley, which has to be colored a certain way for me to like it and this was not the case- damn those Russians! My favorite out of the simpler designs though was the Yelena Bustier Jumpsuit- a dark purple bustier, high-waisted black, loose, ankle tight pants. Simple, chic, nice!

The stand out pieces really stood out! Bright flowing feminine pieces that you wanted to snatch off the model as she walked by. The bright yellow Anastasia beaded dress with black leggings was FANTASTIC! Another favorite was the beautifully Asian influenced (although with a Russian name) Doystoevsky bloom long dress. It flowed beautifully and the contrasting pink floral with the blue and black was quite an eye catcher. The enchanted forest sparkle chiffon gown was a dress I initially turned my nose at, but in hindsight realized how great piece it was. The final look however, the snow maiden gown, a flowing bright pink, one ruffled shouldered piece was as sweet, fresh and crisp as a Stoli Razberi vodka. Now that’s Russian!

Miss Sixty will be debuting the Fall/Winter 2009 Collection Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Here is your first look at the collection! Miss Sixty takes a walk on the Victorian-art-inspired side of their Fall 2009 line. The high-waist shorts are complimented with a plunging feminine, airy top and a thick black belt to accentuate the waist.
