Deréon Spring/Summer 2010 Ad Campaign

What do a stuntwoman, a baseball player and a drag queen have in common? They’re all stars in William Wyatts play “When Joey Married Bobby”.  This work by the writing Duo WW is a campy sitcom dream ripe with political satire. Fresh but somehow familiar this little play serves up some huge laughs.

The play centers around Southern socialite Sarah Edwards (Tina McKissick) who endeavors to win the title of “Christian of the year” whilst attempting to plan a lavish gay wedding for her only son (Matthew Pender). Though, well off she still has to hide the growing pile of bills from her fiscally minded husband. Despite all her efforts to lead a “good Christian” lifestyle her faith and commitment are tested when her activist daughter invites a homeless man to live with them. Add to that the misguided preacher’s wife, Charity Devine (Lady Bunny), a foul mouthed mother in-law, and a sassy personal assistant and you have a sure fire recipe for homegrown hilarity.

Though billed as a play starring Lady Bunny, her role is that of a bit player. While her moments on screen are some of the most memorable of this piece the main star is Tina McKissick’s Sarah Edwards. McKissick quick one liners and comedic timing were reminiscent of comic legend Lucille Ball. Minus 1 Ethel, her comic nemesis came in the form of an ailing mother-in law- (Deborah Johnstone) whose snarky jabs were as insightful as they were hilarious. Not to be outdone Lady Bunny adds to the chaos as the well meaning but misguided Mrs. Devine, who in one scene, sends a party dress to a starving child she sponsors because “every girl should have a nice party dress”, an act that serves as an over the top testament to American decadence and ignorance. Though rounded out by a cast of eccentric characters McKissick carries this production artfully on her tiny little shoulders.

“When Joey Married Bobby” is as much about gay marriage as “The Hangover” was about a wedding. Though the event may have been in the center the characters involved eclipsed its importance by leaps and bounds. Don’t go to this play expecting social commentary on the pros and cons of a homosexual union. Go instead for its humor, heart and playful jabs at right wing agenda, better still just go see the darn thing and be entertained for 2 hours, you won’t be disappointed.

Fox Searchlight Pictures held a star studded movie premiere for the film Our Family Wedding in New York City and our photographer Christian Fernandez was there to capture the celebrity arrivals. In Our Family Wedding, Lucia (America Ferrera) and Marcus (Lance Gross) learn the hard way that the path to saying “I do” can be rife with familial strife. When they return from college and too suddenly announce their marriage plans, they soon discover that their fathers – two highly competitive over-the-top egos – can wreak a major amount of havoc on their special day. With insults flying and tempers running high, it’s anyone’s guess if the alpha dads (Forest Whitaker and Carlos Mencia) will survive to make it down the aisle in one piece. Lucia’s mother (Diana Maria Riva) is busy planning the wedding of “her” dreams and the only levelheaded one in the bunch is Angela (Regina King), the groom’s father’s best friend and lawyer, who manages to keep her cool when the madness reaches a crescendo. With only weeks to plan their wedding, Lucia and Marcus soon discover the true meaning of love and find there is truth to the saying – that when you marry someone, you marry their entire family.

During New York Fashion Week we spotted legendary designer Diane Von Furstenberg at the New York Times Building in New York City.

One of our favorite brands, PUMA launched Italy’s 2010 uniform with a fun event held at posh eatery Trattoria Cinque (which JSD highly recommends) in NYC. The new kits are part of PUMA’s PowerCat 1.10 collection, including the statement football boot the PowerCat 1.10. Staying true to tradition, the colors of the home kit is Italy’s classic azzurro blue with white details. The away kit is the traditional white with blue and gold details. The home shirt features a unique body fit and ‘battle skin’ graphic, designed specifically for Italy and their quest for a fifth World Cup title. The Italy away shirt delivers a different design interpretation under the same PowerCat concept.The unique star-shaped collar highlighted with the green, white and red of Italy pays homage to the team’s four World Cup titles as do the four stars on the official FIGC logo on the left chest. A leaping PUMA Cat logo on the right chest is prominently displayed. The design of the jerseys reflects PUMA’s sports lifestyle positioning and the dynamic and modern character of the Azzuri. PUMA kept everyone entertained with a live photoshoot throughout the evening. Pictures from the shoots were displayed on monitors and later printed for guests.

As we made our way through the restaurant, we noticed there were custom PUMA tees being made for everyone in attendance.We opted for the blue-on-white T-shirt, to match our PUMA shades.
